The 2007 Remembering Ron Cameron Golf Fiesta was a roaring success once again due to the hard work by the committee members, families, friends, Loch Nairn course and facilities' staff, contributors, and gracious events sponsors (see page of sponsors, donors, and other contributors). Ron spoke to the big man upstairs and made sure we had a beautiful day with sunny skies and mild temperatures in the upper 70's, hitting a high of 81 degrees with low humidity and a gentle breeze all day with the occasional gust up 25 mph that played with a few golfers' balls, or at least that was the tale being told around the bar afterward for not winning the event or "just missing" the hole-in-one prizes.

The event was a sell-out and drew a record 144 golfers for a Loch Nairn Golf Club (Avondale, PA) outing. To accommodate the number of golfers the event utilized a scramble format, which also catered to level of golf experience from the hacker, to the casual duffer up to the seasoned veteran of the links.

The day started off with golf registration and all golfers receiving a bag of goodies that included many trinkets donated by many people and companies listed on our sponsors page. Each golfer also received custom t-shirts imprinted with the Remembering Ron Cameron logo donated by the Service Roundtable.

Once everyone had checked in the group was sent out on the course with at 12:30 pm after a ceremonial toast to Ron Cameron and the playing of "Scotland The Brave" on the bag pipes by Bob Waters. The course was wonderfully prepared and play great. The many participants soaked up the sun, suds, and laughter all day long. The stories of Ron could be heard on every tee, green and every cart. I feel Ron was all over the course that day (not to mention most days he played there in his day).

The event featured hole-in-one incentives such as cars, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, golf clubs, a computer and a stereo (please see sponsor page for prize donations). This was in addition to prize money for landing in the Circle of Excellence. Golfers even had a shot at awards for longest drive, closest to the pin, top three team finishes, and high gross (see 2007 results page).

After golf, everyone enjoyed cocktails, dinner, awards door prizes, and reminiscing with memories of Ron. The winners received plaques and prize money and had their names engraved on the annual winners plaque accompanying the highly-coveted African golfer trophy (a hideous statue Ron proudly displayed in his house) on permanent display at Loch Nairn's Pro Shop.

While the 2006 event was not intended to raise money, but rather to gather and celebrate Ron, his life and his memory, the 2007 event celebrated Ron and was a charitable event. Shortly after the 2006 event we realized that the love and support of the participants and community made it evident that people truly care and are moved to make a difference. As such, it was decided that Ron and all his family and friends can make a difference in the life of a student(s) from Unionville High School (Ron graduated from UHS in 1986 and some of Ron's greatest memories were from his days there, and the friendships he made and maintained from the next 20 years) by assisting in offsetting continuing education costs for a student aspiring to a career in the trades.

Hence, the Ron Cameron Foundation and the Ron Cameron Memorial Scholarship Fund was created for the 2007 event and beyond (see the Foundation page for details).

The 2007 event raised enough money to allow the Ron Cameron Foundation to award its inaugural scholarship to Benjamin H. Clark of Chadds Ford, PA. Ben received a plaque, $1,000 cash award, and a golf outing invitation at the annual UHS awards ceremony held May 23, 2007. Subsequently at the awards dinner after the golf outing, Foundation organizers decided to award an additional $4,000 to Ben as a result of the generosity of event sponsors and participants. Ben plans on using his grant to continue his studies at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA (Penn State affiliate) in a Residential Construction Management curriculum, and pursue a career in Residential Project Management (see press releases).

We wish to thank everyone who participated in some way - either by supplying the outing with gifts, donating money, sponsoring the event, or just by golfing. We also wish to thank those who did not golf, but thankfully joined us for dinner.

It was truly a memorable day, and one of which Ronnie would be proud. I am confident he was smiling down upon us that day and toasting us as we toasted him.

We love and miss you dearly Ron!
