2006 Remembering Ron Cameron Golf Fiesta Recap
A foursome at the 2006 Outing
The 2006 golf outing was bittersweet. We were all there to remember Ron and honor him in the way he would have appreciated most, sharing friendship and laughter.
There were 128 golfers who gathered to participate in a scramble format. The outing welcomed all levels of golf experience from hacker to the seasoned duffer. Although the day was hot and humid, the Loch Narin Golf Course was in great condition. Golfers soaked up plenty sun and cold refreshments throughout the course and it was a fun day for all. After golf, everyone enjoyed cocktails, dinner, awards door prizes, and reminiscing with memories of Ron.
The winners received plaques and prize money (all surprisingly donated their prize money back to the Foundation - a very generous and much appreciated gesture) and had their names engraved on the annual winners plaque accompanying the highly-coveted African golfer trophy (a hideous statue Ron proudly displayed in his house) on permanent display at Loch Nairn's Pro Shop.
Last year's event was not structured to raise money. However, the love and support prior to and on the day of the golf outing made it evident that people truly care and are moved to make a difference. We have decided that Ron can make a difference in the life of a student(s) from Unionville High School. Some of Ron's greatest memories are from his days at UHS, and he maintained those friendships for almost 20 years.
Future year's proceeds from the event will be directed to the scholarship fund created in Ron's memory. The Ron Cameron Memorial Scholarship Fund will be awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in construction. This student is one who best exemplifies Ron's zest for life, friendships and hard work.
Ron attended a technical school after graduating from Unionville High School and chose his career in the HVAC Industry. Ron was passionate about working hard no matter what the task. He had an excellent work ethic and was a valued employee and co-worker.
We wish to thank everyone who participated in some way - either by supplying the outing with gifts, by sponsoring the event, or just by golfing. We also wish to thank those who were unable to play golf but attended the dinner.
